Two Stages in One Tank
The Penguin Hybrid Softener splits a single mineral tank in two. The top holds a premium coconut shell catalytic carbon blend that removes chlorine, chloramine, chemicals, tastes and odors. The bottom holds 10% crosslinked softening resin that removes hardness.
You get filtered, soft water from one tank and a brine tank, instead of a separate softener and filter. It is available as the Bluetooth-controlled Smart Hybrid and as the Stream Shield Hybrid, which adds leak detection and automatic water shut-off.

A water softener and a carbon filter in one tank. The top of the tank holds catalytic carbon that removes chlorine, chloramine and chemicals; the bottom holds softening resin that removes hardness. On regeneration, the carbon is backwashed with fresh water and the resin is regenerated with brine.
